Jon Jones Will Consider Heavyweight Division And Super Fights if Title Run Continues

UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones

By FCF Staff

Jon Jones has said in the past that a move to the heavyweight division could come in the short term future, and during a medical call today to promote UFC 159, the light-heavyweight champ revealed some of the conditions.

While discussing his future and goals during today’s call, Jones relayed that his immediate concern is surpassing the title defense record of former champ Tito Ortiz, which stands at five.

“One thing I’ve been contemplating is first, tying Tito Ortiz, and then establishing that record for the most wins in my next fight, maybe in November,” said the 25 year-old Jones. “After that fight in November entertaining super fights and heavyweight fights.”

While a bout between Jones and Anderson Silva would be a huge draw, and makes sense due to the fact the middleweight champ has competed at 205 pounds several times, Jones hasn’t gone out of his way to endorse the fight publicly. The light-heavyweight champ wouldn’t confirm today whether Silva would be a super fight he’d consider.

Of course, Jones has to get by Chael Sonnen at UFC 159 first, which will take place Saturday night in Newark, New Jersey.
