Jose Aldo Ending MMA Retirement, Fighting Jonathan Martinez Next
By FCF Staff
It looks like Jose Aldo’s MMA retirement will be a brief one, as it’s being reported the legendary fighter is returning to the UFC for a bout with Jonathan Martinez.
Aldo (31-8), who is now 37, initially announced he was walking away from MMA in 2022, following his decision loss to Merab Dvalishvili. Since then, the former featherweight champ has competed twice in boxing, going 1-0-1.
But, recently AG Fight reported that Aldo has agreed to fight the rising bantamweight Martinez at UFC 301. The card is taking place on May 4th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where Aldo resided for years.
Other outlets, as well as Aldo, are reporting the match-up.
The 29-year-old Martinez (19-4), meanwhile, is riding a six-fight winning streak. Most recently in October, Martinez recorded a TKO win (via leg kicks) over Adrian Yanez.
UFC 301 will be headlined by a fight between flyweight champ Alexandre Pantoja and Steve Erceg.
