Report: Jose Aldo on Fighting Anthony Pettis “I’m Not Scared of Anyone”

Aldo

Although Jose Aldo’s manager and coach Andre Pederneiras has said he wants his fighter to battle Anthony Pettis at 145, the featherweight champion insists that doesn’t mean he’s scared to fight the newly crowned lightweight champ.

After Pettis tapped out Benson Henderson at UFC 164, he proceeded to call for a bout with Aldo, who he was initially scheduled to meet on August 3rd at UFC 163. In response, Pederneiras tweeted that they would take the bout, but that it would have to take place at featherweight, since the two were originally booked to battle at that weight. UFC President Dana White stated, however, that the comments might make it seem like Aldo’s intimidated by Pettis.

In an appearance on the Brazilian TV show Planeta Nocaute, Aldo was asked to comment on the situation, and the champion reportedly stated (as transcribed by MMA Fighting.com):

“I can fight Cain Velasquez if they want,” Aldo said. “It’s not up to me, I’m not the matchmaker. I want to fight, I’m here to fight. I train everyday to destroy whoever they put in front of me. I’m not scared of anyone. They have two arms and two legs, and I will do my best and win.”

Aldo also backed the comments of Pederneiras, who the champion said is asking for something in return, after they agreed to fight Pettis in August. Pettis was granted an immediate title shot at 145, which initially, Aldo did not agree with. As a result, the Brazilian’s camp reportedly negotiated his own immediate title shot at lightweight, if he had gone on to defeat Pettis.
