After leaping way up in the UFC’s featherweight ranks, thanks to a vicious, KO win over Ricardo Lamas, Josh Emmett is making the case for a bout with Brian Ortega next.

Emmett faced Lamas at UFC on FOX 26 earlier this month, and took out the longtime contender with a brutal hook in the opening round. Following the pivotal win, Emmett appeared on “The MMA Hour”, and the Team Alpha Male fighter had this to say about his next bout (quote via MMA Fighting):

“I want to be a world champion like I said, so if something was presented to me like a title shot, like I said, I’ll take that in a heartbeat,” Emmett said. “But I know (Frankie) Edgar and (Max) Holloway, they’re in talks about fighting. I think Edgar has definitely earned it, so what makes the most sense to me is maybe if Brian Ortega and I fight. The winner of us gets the winner of Edgar-Holloway.”

Ortega fought at UFC Fight Night 123 earlier this month, and submitted top contender, Cub Swanson. Currently Ortega is ranked #3 in the UFC’s 145 division, and Emmett is #5.
