Josh Thomson Criticizes UFC’s PPV Plans For Tony Ferguson vs. Justin Gaethje
By FCF Staff
The news that Tony Ferguson is going to fight Justin Gaethje for an interim lightweight title, on pay-per-view, has drawn some mixed reviews. One of the people questioning the UFC’s decision to book the match-up for UFC 249, on April 18th is Josh Thomson.
On Monday, the UFC announced that Ferguson vs. Gaethje will headline UFC 249, which has yet to have a location announced.
The card was originally booked to take place in Brooklyn, New York, with Khabib Nurmagomedov defending the title against Ferguson. But, due to bans on travel and public gatherings because of the coronavirus, the UFC was forced to look for a new location and Nurmagomedov is stranded in Russia.
After the new fight was announced, the former Strikeforce champ and Bellator commentator, Thomson, tweeted out this.
First, @TonyFergusonXT should have waited for @TeamKhabib cuz that’s the fight people truly want. Second, @TeamKhabib should feel disrespected by the @ufc and Interim title. Tony deserves title shot but not this way, again. PPV when everyone wondering about their next paycheck
After all this, we won’t get the best of either guy. When most of the world is stressed about their next paycheck the ufc is dropping a fight on PPV that people will want to see but not the one they actually saved up for.
