Justin Gaethje – Dustin Poirier Rematch Announced, BMF Title on The Line
By FCF Staff
The BMF title has not been relegated to history just yet, as the UFC has announced that Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier will battle for the belt in their rematch.
Recently, UFC President Dana White announced that the lightweights will fight at UFC 291, which will take place on July 29th in Salt Lake City. The symbolic BMF title, which the now-retired Jorge Masvidal won in his 2019 bout with Nate Diaz, will be up for grabs.
Gaethje (24-4) and Poirier (29-7) fought for the first time in 2018, and the latter won the bout via a fourth-round stoppage.
In his last outing, this past March, Gaethje recorded a decision win over Rafael Fiziev. The former interim champ is 3-2 in his last 5 contests.
Poirier, meanwhile, submitted Michael Chandler in the third round of his last bout, which went down in November. The veteran fighter, who is also a former interim champ, is 4-1 in his last 5 bouts.
Currently, Poirier is ranked #2 in the UFC’s lightweight rankings and Poirier is ranked #3.
