Justin Gaethje isn’t knocking on the UFC’s title shot door yet, but the lightweight contender is already fielding questions about the promotion’s lightweight champ, Conor McGregor.

Gaethje is booked to fight Michael Johnson at the TUF 25 Finale, which will take place July 7th in Las Vegas. The bout will mark Gaethje’s UFC debut, after the former WSOF champ signed with the promotion earlier this year.

Recently Gaethje was a guest on the UFC Unfiltered podcast, and while discussing McGregor, the 17-0 fighter said this about the Irish star (quote via MMA Fighting):

“Skill wise, there’s nobody that’s gonna outwork me. He’ll outtalk me, that’s for damn sure but he ain’t gonna outwork me. His skillset is special, he’s got a great left hand. But we’ve seen him quit. He’s got quit in his heart and once a quitter, always a quitter.”

“Absolutely [I’m calling for a title shot after my fight]. Like I said, if I get that belt around my waist, there’s no question who he has to fight when he comes back. Well, he can fight whoever the hell he wants obviously but if I have the interim title and I’m finishing people like I know I can, he has to fight me.”

The 28 year-old Gaethje is coming off a TKO win over Luiz Firmino in December, while Johnson was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov in his last outing, in November.
