Although Kelvin Gastelum narrowly got by “Jacare” Souza at UFC 224, the surging middleweight plans to wait for a title shot.

Gastelum faced the #2 ranked middleweight on Saturday, and emerged with a split decision win. After the bout, Gastelum had this to say, while discussing his next bout (quote via MMA Fighting):

“I definitely feel like a title shot should be next.I don’t think I’d accept any other fight than the title shot. I’m the most active middleweight there has been. All the guys (I’ve beat) are top-10 and former champions, so I feel like I deserve it.”

“I definitely feel I deserve the shot. So I definitely feel like I will sit out until my shot is next.”

Gastelum has recorded wins over Souza and Michael Bisping, since he was submitted by former champion, Chris Weidman, last July. Reigning champion Robert Whittaker is booked to fight Yoel Romero on June 9th at UFC 225.
