Following the news that Darren Till and Kelvin Gastelum are going to fight at UFC 244, November 2nd, some observers questioned whether Till should have taken the match-up. But, recently Gastelum made it clear that he’s not going to overlook the former welterweight challenger, as their fight nears.

Till quickly moved his way up the UFC’s ranks and was booked to fight now former champ, Tyron Woodley last September. Woodley dominated much of the fight and submitted Till in round two. The British fighter returned to the Octagon this past March, and was viciously knocked out by Jorge Masvidal.

Gastelum was on hand at UFC 242 this past weekend. While discussing his upcoming bout with Till (17-2-1), and the fact some people are predicting he will cruise through the former welterweight, Gastelum said this (quotes via MMA Junkie):

“I agree everybody likes the fight, but everybody keeps saying ‘you’re going to smash him, you’re going to smash him,’ but Till is more dangerous than everybody thinks,” Gastelum said. “He’s coming off two losses. A year ago, everyone was on him a year ago, and now everybody is like, ‘Oh, he’s nothing.’ You know, but he’s a great fighter.”

“It’s easy reading the comments, because I do go through the comments sometimes like, ‘Oh, Gastelum’s got it. He’s going to knock him out, he’s going to do this, Gastelum 100 percent.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, I think they’re right,’ but you kind of have to check yourself and realize this is a dangerous guy. He’s a dangerous fighter.”

At UFC 244, Gastelum (15-4) will be competing for the first time since April, when he lost via decision to now interim middleweight champ, Israel Adesanya.
