Kenny Garner Replaces Injured Guram Gugenishvili for July 8th M-1 Challenge

By FCF Staff

U.S. fans curious to see M-1 Global Heavyweight Champion Guram Gugenishvili live and in action will have to wait longer, as the promotion has confirmed that the rising fighter has been forced out of his July 8th North American debut. According to a news release from M-1 Global, Gugenishvili will not be able to fight Pat Bennett as scheduled, because of injuries to both his left arm and wrist.

“As unfortunate as late training injuries are, they’re part of the sport. No one is more disappointed about the change in circumstances than Guram himself; as the Champion and a patriot to his country, he had been doing everything possible to prepare for a successful title defense. He was absolutely gutted when breaking the news to us,” said M-1 Global Director of Operations, Evgeni Kogan. “We hope Guram makes a swift recovery so he can return to action as soon as possible.”

Stepping in to replace Gugenishvili will be M-1 Americas Selection tourney winner, Kenny Garner (6-3), who stopped Bennett in the first round last September. Garner last competed in April and knocked out Danny Lockhart while competing on an Art of Fighting event.

Bennett (4-2) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Alexander Volkov in December.

No venue or location in the U.S. has been announced yet for the upcoming July 8th event
