Due to a knee injury which has forced Jon Fitch to withdraw from his upcoming, July 11th, UFC on FUEL bout with Aaron Simpson, Kenny Robertson has agreed to step in for the former and will fight Simpson on short notice.

Robertson (11-1) will be competing for the first time in the Octagon since February, 2011, when he was stopped by Mike Pierce . The bout was Robertson’s only UFC appearance to date.

Since then the 28 year-old fighter has recorded a highlight reel, spinning backfist KO of fellow UFC vet Lucio Linhares, which took place last October.

The 37 year-old Simpson (11-3) is coming off a split decision loss to Ronny Markes in February, which ended a three fight win streak that included victories over Mario Miranda, Brad Tavares and Eric Schafer.

The upcoming July 11th card will be hosted by San Jose’s HP Pavilion and will feature a middleweight bout between Mark Munoz and Chris Weidman in the main event.
