Kevin Holland is quick to praise Ian Machado Garry for his ambition and what he’s accomplished. But, the welterweight contender doesn’t see the UFC booking him to fight the rising star.

The 25-year-old Garry (13-0) recorded his sixth win in the Octagon at UFC 292 earlier this month, by recording a unanimous decision win over veteran, Neil Magny. Afterward, the Irish fighter called for a bout with longtime contender, Stephen Thompson.

More recently, Holland appeared on the “Believe You Me” podcast. While discussing the possibility of a showdown with Garry, the former middleweight said he doesn’t think the UFC will come calling (quotes via MMA Junkie).

“They have a blueprint for guys like that, and I don’t think I fit the blueprint,” Holland said. “I don’t think I fit the bill when it comes to what Ian Garry has planned and, you know, props to the guy. Nothing but respect.

“The dude’s 25 and he takes his career very, very seriously. When I was 25 years old, I really didn’t give two sh*ts about the career, so props to that guy. When I was 25, I wanted to make it, but didn’t really care if I did. He’s there and he’s taking advantage of it.”

The 30-year-old Holland (25-9) is coming off a submission win over Michael Chiesa in July and 3-2 in his last 5 bouts. The American is currently scheduled to fight Jack Della Maddalena at the UFC’s September 16th card in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Garry is currently ranked #11 in the UFC’s welterweight division and Holland is placed in the #13 spot.
