Khamzat Chimaev Expects to Fight Winner of Sean Strickland – Dricus Du Plessis
By FCF Staff
Khamzat Chimaev hasn’t been booked for his next bout yet. But, the undefeated fighter believes he’ll face whoever is holding the UFC’s middleweight title following UFC 297.
Chimaev (13-0) is coming off a majority decision win over former welterweight champ, Kamaru Usman, in October. That fight marked the first time Chimaev had competed since September, 2022, when he submitted Kevin Holland.
Recently, Mohammed Hijab shared out a video of a conversation with Chimaev via his YouTube channel. While discussing the middleweight champ Sean Strickland, who is set to fight Dricus Du Plessis on January 20th, Chimaev reported he’s been told he’s next in line for a title shot (quotes via MMA Fighting).
“He has the fight now, he has a good fighter who’s fighting with him [Dricus] du Plessis, if he wins against this guy, for sure we’re going to fight,” Chimaev said. “100 percent it should be.
“They promised me that fight. Now we’re going to wait [to see] who is winning that fight and take the belt.”
Chimaev, who has gone 7-0 in the UFC to date, is currently ranked #9 in the promotion’s middleweight rankings.
Recently, Chimaev had reported via social media that he was battling through some medical issues, before the posts were deleted.
