From the event’s promoter Christopher Cordeiro:

Brandon Bleldsoe wins vacant WVF
World Featherweight Title (140-149lbs)

Below are the fight results and details From Battlejax last Saturday May 26th in Jacksonville Florida:

  1. Josh Hughes defeated Gary Cobb at :46 into the 1st round by heel hook.
Hughes and Cobb came out and exchanged a couple of quick punches. The fight went right to the ground, where the two got caught up in a leg lock war. Josh Hughes cranked away on a heel hook to end the 1st fight of the night at only :46 seconds.

  2. Lionel Cortez defeated Clint Ward at 1:57 into the 1st round by rear naked choke.

Cortez took the fight right to the ground with a huge double leg take down. Cortez landed a few shots to the head of Clint Ward as he controlled with the mounted position. Clint Ward attempted to roll Cortez but as he did so Cortez took his back and sank in the rear naked choke.

  3. Matt Rogers defeated Sean Grey by judge’s decision at the end of 3 rounds.
Rogers and Grey fought the entire 18 minutes of the fight toe to toe. It was definitely the fight of the night. The 1st round was very close back and forth action both fighters scoring. All 3 judges awarded the round to Rogers but it was a very close round that could have very easily gone either way. The second round was all Sean Grey as he constantly landed impressive punching combinations. All 3 judges scored this round for Grey. In the 3rd and final round Rogers and Grey clinched up right at the begging of the round. They both struggled for a take down. Eventually it was Rogers who came out on top taking down Grey with a leg trip. Rogers took the mount and began to rain punches down to the face of Grey. At the end of the bout all 3 judges scored this round to Rogers which earned him the win in a very close fight.

  4. Mike Nelson defeated Mark Toler by hammerlock at 1:14 into the 2nd round.
Mark Toler came out and just plain jacked Mike Nelson up. Toler threw some punching combinations to open the fight in a bout where you might have thought he was Vanderlai Silva’s little brother. The fight went to the ground and Toler burst through Nelson’s guard. Bashing his head with knee’s and punches. Mark Toler had knee to belly and has landing crushing blows. To Mike Nelsons credit he survived the round battered and bruised. The 2nd round started and it was more of the same action. Nelson placed guard on Toler. This time as Toler past the guard and took side position Mike Nelson, surprised everyone trapping Toler’s arm in a hammerlock using his legs. Toler was forced to tap out giving Mike Nelson the toughest win of his career.

  5. Mushin Cobbrey defeated Cody Atchinson by rolling knee-bar at :29 into the 1st round.
Mushin Cobbrey won his fight immediately with a beautiful rolling knee-bar as soon as they clinched up. It had to be one of the best submission victories at any of the past Jacksonville events.

  6. Lionel Perez defeated Alex Keaton by arm-bar at 2:20 into the 1st round.
This fight started with Alex Keaton throwing a couple of punches but the fight quickly went to the ground. Perez showed he is a gifted grappler controlling Keaton. Keaton while attempting to escape from the bottom position got caught with a well-applied Arm-bar.

    Brandon Bledsoe

  7. Brandon Bledsoe defeated Danny Byrket by arm-bar at 3:30 into the 1st round.
This bout was for the vacant WVF World Featherweight Championship. Originally scheduled to face Bledsoe was Mike Cardoso of Miami. He however was unable to fight due to a knee injury sustained during training. Byrket another contender for the title replaced him. As the bell rang the two fighters went right at it trading punches. Byrket landed a solid right hand that sent Bledsoe backwards. Bledsoe responded by shooting right in to get the take down. Byrket had Brandon in a Guillotine as they landed on the ground. Brandon escaped the Guilotine and passed the guard of Byrket immediately taking the mount position. From the mount Brandon Bledsoe won the title fight by arm-bar at 3:30 into the 1st round.
