Despite telling UFC commentator Joe Rogan that his career was probably over and stating “I’m done”, following his unanimous decision loss to Nick Diaz Saturday, the latest statement from BJ Penn does not say that the fighter is officially retired.

Speaking via his official website at BJ Penn.com, the former lightweight and welterweight champion stated:

“I want to thank all the fans for their love and support. I have decided to take some time off to enjoy life, train and teach. I will keep you guys posted with what’s next.”

The loss to Diaz was Penn’s third in his last five fights and dropped the 32 year-old-veteran’s record to 16-8-2.

In February, the renowned fighter battled top contender to Jon Fitch to a draw, approximately three months after Penn knocked out Matt Hughes at UFC 123 last November.

After a run as the UFC’s lightweight champion, which included wins over established vets like Diego Sanchez, Kenny Florian and Sean Sherk, Penn dropped back-to-back bouts to current champion Frankie Edgar in 2010 and returned to the welterweight division.
