It’s been nearly one month since welterweight prospect Jordan Mein stopped Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos in the third round to secure a memorable victory in his Strikeforce debut, but it remains to be seen when the 23-7 fighter will fight again. According to Jordan’s father, trainer and veteran fighter Lee, they are hoping for the Canadian to fight again in the next few months, but as of now, he’s unsure of what’s next.

“I’ve been asking if we can get a fight in December for sure,” Lee Mein told FCF today. “They said they’ll be probably matching up guys for December and January right away. So I don’t know if that means they’re waiting to see what happens with the Showtime deal and all that, before they commit to anything. I don’t know what the exact deadline is on that…It’s no big deal for us, we’re just curious as he’s not used to sitting too long between fights.”

Of course, Mein isn’t the only one in the MMA world who continues to speculate as to what the future holds for Strikeforce, as Showtime has yet to announce whether they intend to continue their broadcasting partnership with the Zuffa promotion. While Jordan isn’t one of Strikeforce’s biggest names yet, Lee is confident that his son’s first performance for the company was good enough to earn him a spot in the UFC, if indeed; the Strikeforce era comes to an end.

“I think so,” said Mein, who continues to train Jordan and other pro fighters in Lethbridge, Alberta, “He’s already fought top guys; he’s already beaten some tough guys that have fought in the UFC welterweight division. That was a spectacular finish too; after the fight there was lots of people talking about it on Twitter and things like that, so, I’m sure that helped as he tries to break in and I’m sure that will help with sponsors down the road.”

“If that win is part of the factor that gets him a bigger name right of the start, if Strikeforce becomes part of the UFC, or whether he gets a title shot with Strikeforce, or whatever, we don’t really care; we know that the guys you don’t know of are just as tough or tougher than some of the established guys,” Mein added. “We just want to get fighting again.”

While Jordan finished off Santos in a punishing fashion, to extend a win streak to six that includes victories over Joe Riggs, Josh Burkmann and Marius Zaromksis, Lee Mein concedes there was room for improvement in his son’s Strikeforce debut.

“My thing was that he wasn’t pulling the trigger enough for what I know he can do,” Mein said. “He wasn’t throwing the elbows and combos early on like I wanted him to. It was just a matter of him working through it, getting his timing down, that’s all part of the learning process. What he did in the third round I wanted him to do in the first round and we’ve discussed that a lot.”

“As impressive as Jordan’s stand-up is for a lot of people, we know that it can be a lot better with just a few little adjustments,” Mein noted. “He’s been looking at that already and looking to improve his stand-up even more, to make it more dynamic, more aggressive. Of course we always work on other areas. It was a good fight though…The fact that he had the conditioning to put it on in the third round was good too.”
