Leslie Smith Believes There Will be a “Totally Different Climate” in One Year, Regarding Fighter’s Union
By FCF Staff
Leslie Smith has been a vocal proponent of fighters organizing a union, and the UFC vet believes things could be dramatically different in this respect, one year from now.
Following the UFC’s reported sale for approximately $4.2 billion, talk about fighter’s forming a union has never been more widespread. The discussion has also been heightened by Mark Hunt, who has been calling for fighters to organize, and recently the Professional Fighters Association (PFA) began campaigning for a union.
Smith, who has been an active participant in the push for a union, recently appeared on “The MMA Hour”. During the interview, she said this, while discussing the movement’s future (quote via MMA Fighting.com):
“I’d say that in a year, we should see a totally different climate and actions being taken by the association and the union.”
The bantamweight also reported that she recently met with Jeff Borris, who is one of the driving forces behind the PFA. Smith said she was “really encouraged” by the plans Borris laid out.
