Lion Fights 58 Preview

By Press Release

Lion Fight 58

Foxwoods Resort Casino – Mashantucket, CT

Main Card

CBS Sports Network (8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT)

Main Event: Steve “Put Em To Sleep” Walker (7-0) vs. Chris “AK-47” Bradford (24-13)

World Super Cruiserweight Title – 205 lbs.

Walker, the undefeated North American Super Cruiserweight champion, goes after the big prize in front of what will surely be a huge throng of supporters. The Boston, Massachusetts, product is a proven finisher with six knockout victories to his credit, including a ferocious fourth-round stoppage of Kristaps Zile and a fifth-round halt against Bader Ferdaous. But he’ll face the most dangerous threat of his career in Bradford, who hails from Geelong, Victoria, Australia. The power-puncher from Down Under is widely considered to be one of the top fighters in the division.

Co-Main Event: Brett “The Threat” Hlavacek (19-5) vs. Joey George (6-2)

Lion Fight North American Cruiserweight Title – 185 lbs.

This will be Hlavacek’s first defense of his second North American title. Already holding the Light Heavyweight belt, the Brooklyn, New York, native added the Cruiserweight strap in April with a dominant performance against Ardany Mora. George, though, is a significant threat himself with a straight-ahead, take-no-prisoners mentality and the Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, product is aiming to take Hlavacek off his perch.

Chris Mauceri (7-4) vs. Stephen Oppong (7-5)

Welterweight – 147 lbs.

Two of dangerous will collide in this matchup. Mauceri, who fights out of New Paltz, New York, has highlight-reel finishing skills and he’s looking to end a two-bout skid that has seen him drop a pair of gut-wrenching decision in Ireland and Los Angeles. Meanwhile, Oppong will be making his organizational debut and the Montreal, Quebec, Canada, competitor is coming off a big knockout win of his own.

“Bazooka” Joe Stripling (4-1) vs. Mirza Hopovac (2-0)

Heavyweight – 265 lbs. max.

Wilmington, Delaware’s Stripling saw his unbeaten record fall in a hotly disputed decision loss to Cody East in Lion Fight’s debut event in New Mexico. A rematch between the two was initially planned but East was sidelined due to injury. In his place steps Bosnia’s Hopovac who was scored two KO wins to open his career.

Pro Prelim Bout:

Dwayne Holman (2-1) vs. Matt McCusker (0-3): Welterweight – 143 lbs.

Holman, who fights out of Lodi, New Jersey, goes after his first win inside the Lion Fight ring, while McCusker looks to break out fighting in a better-suited weight division. McCusker is originally from New England but now fights out of Tampa, Florida.

Amateur Prelims:
