The expectation has been that Kamaru Usman’s next title defense will come against Jorge Masdvidal. But, according to the welterweight champ’s manager, if Masvidal opts for a rematch with Nate Diaz, they’re willing to face Conor McGregor.

As fighters responded to McGregor’s recent contention he’s headed to becoming the greatest fighter of all time, Masvidal told Diaz he’s willing to rematch the Stockton star. “Gamebred” recorded a TKO win (due to doctor stoppage) over Diaz last November.

Masvidal’s comments were in response to Diaz claiming he’s in fact, the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet. That prompted Usman’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, to tweet out the following.

It looks like #1 contender wants to fight Nate Diaz now . Good for him @TheNotoriousMMA hey you want a title shot ? Come to daddy @USMAN84kg will give you one and he promise first 2 rounds without takedowns only slaps

ESPN followed up with Abdelaziz, and he confirmed that if Masvidal wants to fight Diaz, instead of Usman next, they’re interested in having the champ fight McGregor.

Usman is coming off a stoppage win over Colby Covington in December, which followed his championship victory over Tyron Woodley last March.

McGregor’s only wins competing at welterweight have come against Diaz in 2016 and Donald Cerrone this past January.
