Manny Gamburyan

Manny Gamburyan has decided to close the book on his fighting career, since the 35 year-old veteran believes a championship is out of reach, following his latest defeat.

Gamburyan took on Johnny Eduardo last night at UFC Fight Night 100 in Sao Paulo, and the latter finished the fight with strikes in round two. After the bout, Gamburyan announced he has decided to retire.

While discussing his decision further, “The Anvil” stated (quote via MMA Junkie.com):

“If I can’t get the gold, I won’t fight. I only fight for the gold, and I only fight for the ‘W.’ I’m not a sore loser. Johnny Eduardo was a better man tonight, and my goal is always to come to win, it doesn’t matter where I’m at.

“It could be in Brazil, it could be in Germany, it could be in my country, it doesn’t matter. If I can’t reach the gold, there’s no point for me to fight. And I feel like I can’t reach the gold. My body and my years of working and fighting, it’s not letting me get there anymore.”

Gamburyan made his pro debut back in 1999, and proceeded to go 15-10 throughout his career. Prior to UFC FN 100, Gamburyan was stopped by John Dodson this past April.
