Another accomplished fighter has announced he’s hanging up the gloves, as Martin Kampmann has confirmed he’s retiring from professional fighting at the age of 33.

The Danish fighter, who confirmed the news recently to UFC.com, hadn’t fought since August, 2013, when he was stopped by Carlos Condit. Since then Kampmann had revealed he was taking a break from fighting to recover from a concussion, but now the veteran’s decided to retire from fighting and spend more time with his family.

““I had a lot of good fights,” Kampmann said. “Some of the good fights that the fans tell me they enjoyed the most are the fights where I’ve been in really bad trouble and came back. I was really hurt, knocked down, and I came back from the brink of defeat to win. But those are not the fights I preferred to have. (Laughs) I preferred to come in and have a good, dominant performance. But those other fights are the ones that the fans remember, when I was close to defeat and when I had to dig deep and come back and win.”

Kampmann retires having gone 20-7 in pro MMA. During his time with the UFC he defeated contenders like Thiago Alves, Jake Ellenberger, Rick Story and Condit.

Kampmann also spent time as a coach with Sacramento’s Team Alpha Male, but ultimately he and his family elected to return to Denmark.
