Marvin Vettori isn’t currently ranked in the top ten of the UFC’s middleweight rankings. But, the rising fighter plans to change all that when he fights ‘Jacare’ Souza.

The 27-year-old Vettori is booked to fight the 40-year-old Souza at UFC 256, December 12th. Heading into the contest, Vettori (15-4-1) is riding a three-fight winning streak and is ranked #13 in the middleweight division.

While speaking to MMA Junkie recently about the upcoming fight, and what could come next, Vettori said this.

“To be honest, I’m really focused on this one, but after, I know it would put me in a good spot. I don’t think (Chris) Weidman is ever going to fight me, but I think I’ll be definitely in a top-10 position, and I’m in the mix. Somebody will have to step up and accept my call, and I think they will after this fight.

“I would love to fight somebody like Darren Till, or even somebody like Jack Hermansson. If by any means Kevin Holland wins, I definitely want to fight Holland. But there will be a lot of good fights that come up. We’ll see.”

And, while talking about his plans for 2021 specifically, the Italian fighter stated this.

“I persevere, so I’ll say it again: I want to be more active next year,” Vettori said. “At least I want to fight three times. Hopefully fate will be on our side. It has to be better than this year.”

Souza (26-8), meanwhile, hasn’t fought since last November when he lost via split decision to Jan Blachowicz. The Brazilian fighter is 2-3 in the last 5 fights.

UFC 256 will be hosted by the Apex Facility in Las Vegas.
