The UFC has moved fast to find a replacement for the injured Shane Carwin, as today the promotion announced that Matt Mitrione has agreed to step in and fight current TUF coach Roy Nelson on December 15th.

Carwin was forced to withdraw from the TUF 16 Finale bout, with his opposing coach Nelson, due to a knee injury.

Mitrione had been preparing for a December 29th bout with Philip DeFries, who will reportedly be assigned a new opponent before the year end event.

Nelson (17-7) hasn’t competed since May when he knocked out Dave Herman at UFC 146.

Mitrione (5-1), on the other hand, hasn’t fought since last October when he was handed a unanimous decision loss by Cheick Kongo.

The TUF 16 Finale will be hosted by The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas and will be broadcast on FX.
