Matt Wiman has announced that he’s hanging up the gloves, not long removed from a knockout loss he incurred earlier this month.

The 37-year-old took on Jordan Leavitt at UFC Vegas 16, and was brutally KO’d by a slam in round one. Since then, Wiman has confirmed to MMA Fighting the following.

“Hey guys to be clear, I wasn’t cut, I wasn’t released,” Wiman said via text. “This was my last fight on my latest contract, and we mutually decided I can fight it out and go from there. I decided to retire shortly after the bout.

“It was an easy, relieving decision that was harmonious with the promotion’s stance. This mind and body did everything it set out to do and more. Super pleased and grateful.”

After Wiman (16-10) recorded a decision win over Isaac Vallie-Flagg in 2014, he didn’t fight again until 2019. In his final, UFC run, Wiman went 0-3.

The Oklahoma fighter made his pro debut back in 2004.
