As UFC 300 approaches, the consensus seems to be that Max Holloway will have a tough time taking the BMF title from Justin Gaethje. But, the former featherweight champ insists he’s going to prove his doubters wrong at the historic event.

As the April 13th card nears, Holloway is an underdog on the betting lines to win the highly anticipated contest. Not only is Gaethje regarded as one of the best lightweights on the planet, when Holloway moved up to 155 pounds to fight in Dustin Poirier in 2019, he looked out powered and lost via decision.

But, while speaking about the upcoming fight via his YouTube channel recently, Holloway insisted things will be different this time (quotes via MMA Fighting.com).

“Everybody keeps on bringing up the fight with Poirier, the 155 fight,” Holloway said. “It is what it is, I said what I said. No excuses. I just had six weeks for that camp. This came, we had 10 or more weeks. I can’t even — I don’t even remember how long we had, that’s how long we had. So, at the end of the day, I feel strong. I feel great. I can’t wait to go out there and prove [it].

“You guys want to see the difference? Tune in April 13. You’re gonna see the difference.”

Ever since Holloway faced Poirier, the Hawaiian star repeatedly noted that he wasn’t closing the door on a return to lightweight. If he defeats Gaethje at UFC 300,”Blessed” could move into the top of the lightweight ranks.

“I’m sick and tired of everybody telling me what I gotta think, how I do, putting a limit on me,” he concluded. “Just because you put a limit on yourself, don’t put a limit on others. You guys’ limit is sky, I’m reaching for the star, other universes. We’re not the same.”

The 32-year-old Holloway (25-7) hasn’t fought since last August, when he knocked out Chan Sung Jung.

The 35-year-old Gaethje (25-4), meanwhile, is coming off a knockout win over Poirier in July.

UFC 300 will be hosted by the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
