Media Watch: “Babalu” Training Again, Looks Forward to Next One FC Fight
By Michael Hatamoto
Renato “Babalu” Sobral is back to training less than 10 days after his submission win at ONE Fighting Championship: Destiny of Warriors in late June. The event took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and One FC is now the top MMA promotion in Asia right now.
Sobral fought Japanese MMA fighter Tatsuya Mizuno, winning via armbar submission in the first round. It only took 31 seconds, and although Sobral was hit by several hard punches, there still shouldn’t be much wear and tear on his body due to the fight itself.
Babalu is reportedly back to training, and hoping to be invited to ONE FC’s next fight card in late August.
He had this to say when asked by reporters:
“My attorney, Richard Wilner, is in discussions with Victor and my position is this: I will fight anyone that makes sense. I would be delighted to fight in Manila and I am already back in training for the potential opportunity on the 31st.”
As Sobral said he’s willing to fight anywhere from middleweight to heavyweight, there are certainly some opportunities available for ONE FC. The ONE FC roster includes fighters such as Melvin Manhoef, Rolles Gracie, Jeff Monson, and Satoshii Ishii – and continues to recruit new fighters to further bolster their ranks.
