The May 9th, Maximum Fighting Championship card has its third title fight, as the promotion has announced that Sam Alvey will defend the middleweight belt versus Wes Swofford.

MFC 40 will be hosted by Edmonton’s Shaw Conference Centre and the main card will be broadcast on AXS TV.

Alvey (21-5) laid claim to the middleweight title in October when he stopped Jason South late in round five. The TUF vet is 4-1 in his last 5 fights, and his only loss during that stretch came again former champ Elvis Mutapcic.

Swofford (9-4) is coming off a KO win over Tramain Smith, while competing for Rogue Fights in November. Prior to that he was submitted by UFC vet Tomasz Drwal. Swofford is 3-2 in his last 5 contests.

“Alvey and Swofford match up so well stylistically that they’re going to create an incredible fight. It has all the makings of being the wildest, craziest title fight in MFC history,” MFC owner and president Mark Pavelich was quoted saying in a press release. “Sam has shown great resiliency and the ability to battle through a war. Wes is a very serious threat to Sam’s title and he is ready to put everything he’s got on the line to take his belt away.”

“When both guys have knockout power and the desire to finish a fight, it can only mean great things for the fans in the seats at the Shaw Conference Centre and those watching live on AXS TV Fights.”

Here is the line-up to date for MFC 40.

Wes Swofford vs. Sam Alvey (c) – MFC middleweight title
