The Maximum Fighting Championship has announced that it has signed decorated kickboxer and 8-2 lightweight Shane “Shaolin” Campbell to a multi-fight contract. The 26 year-old fighter will make his promotional debut on May 9th, against an opponent to be determined.

Campbell, who holds a record of 62-9 in kickboxing, was quoted saying in a press release from the promotion:

“This is a beautiful time and opportunity to be a pioneer,” said Campbell. “I’ve got this opportunity to do things people have never seen before. Something like the Teep kick to the face. I and lots of other people did that long before Anderson Silva did it but no one of his stature had ever done it.

“There are dozens of big things that I want to do. I want to be a trendsetter and this my time and the stage to do it.”

The Edmonton resident has gone 4-1 in his last 5 MMA contests, and the only man to defeat him during that stretch is UFC vet Jesse Ronson.

The May 9th, MFC 40 card will be hosted by Edmonton’s Shaw Conference Center, and will feature Tom Gallicchio battling Kurt Southern for the promotion’s vacant lightweight title.
