MFC Announces Plans to Promote Bantamweight Division

By FCF Staff

Having recently re-launched the promotion’s heavyweight division, the Maximum Fighting Championship has announced that it will begin holding bantamweight bouts in 2013. According to a press release from the promotion, the MFC hopes to promote two bantamweight fights next February, whereby the winners will advance to a title fight later in the year.

“The time is right to do it,” said MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich. “We waited a long time to re-ignite the heavyweight division because at the time we dropped the division the talent pool, especiallythe overall athleticism, was very thin. Now the batch of heavyweights available is much better.”

“We are bringing in the featherweights at MFC 35 because we found the right guys to kickstart that division with. And as we received calls and emails about the 145ers, it became clear that there is a very good crop of 135ers out there, so the decision was made to launch the bantamweights.

“I would expect that the MFC will have its first bantamweights signed in the very near future.”

On October 26th, the MFC will officially begin promoting fights in the featherweight division, as Canadian prospect Graham Spencer will take on UFC vet Shane Nelson.

The MFC 35 card will be broadcast on AXS TV and will be hosted by Edmonton’s Mayfield Conference Centre.
