Michael Bisping Grades Chris Weidman’s Championship Reign as a “C-“

Chris Weidman

By FCF Staff

Michael Bisping said before he wasn’t sold on all the hype surrounding Chris Weidman, and following the latter’s loss to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194, the outspoken fighter has given a stark review of his reign as champ.

Weidman was stopped by Rockhold in the fourth round on Saturday night, after the challenger punished him with ground-and-pound strikes for sometime. The defeat was the first of Weidman’s career, and end his run as middleweight champion, which began in 2013 when he defeated Anderson Silva.

Bisping appeared on the latest edition of “UFC Tonight“, and when asked to grade Weidman’s title reign, “The Count” said this (quote via FOX Sports 1 press release):

“Alessio Sakara, Demian Maia and Tom Lawler, these are not the caliber of fighters I’ve been fighting. Then Chris fought Anderson, who messes around and gets knocked out. Then he comes back and breaks his leg. Sorry those are the facts, not speculation. He’s fought a bunch of has beens. The first time he fights a real guy, he loses. God bless you Chris, good luck with the rest of your career. My score: I give you a C-. It’s low, but still a pass.”

Weidman, who turned pro in 2009,  went 13-0 before facing Rockhold.  Bisping, meanwhile, is scheduled to fight fellow contender Gegard Mousasi on February 27th at UFC FN 83.
