Monson vs. Komkin, Gugenishvili vs. Garner Amongst Latest Additions to M-1 Global’s “Fedor vs. Rizzo”
By FCF Staff
M-1 Global continues to round out the card for the promotion’s upcoming June 21st event in St. Petersburg, Russia, and has announced that former UFC contender Jeff Monson will take on Denis Komkin.
The 41 year-old Monson (45-13) will head into the card having gone undefeated in three straight fights, since he lost by unanimous decision to Fedor Emelianenko, at a M-1 Global event in November.
Most recently the heavyweight veteran and accomplished grappler scored a UD win over Jim Yorke while competing for Cage Fighting Championship last month.
Komkin (13-8) will be looking to rebound from a split decision loss he suffered against Deniss Smoldarev in March, after knocking out Rusian Stepanyan at a M-1 Challenge event in November.
Another addition to the “Fedor vs. Rizzo” card will include a rematch between current heavyweight champion Guram Gugenishvili (11-0) and interim champ Kenny Garner (10-3).
Garner was submitted by the undefeated prospect in October, 2010, but has since gone on to win five straight fights.
Gugenishvili has managed just one fight since the victory, due to injuries, and tapped out Maxim Grishin in March, 2011.
The June 21st event will feature former PRIDE champion Fedor Emelianenko taking on veteran Pedro Rizzo in the main event, as well as lightweight champion Daniel Weichel fighting Musa Khamanaev.
