Following initial reports that last weekend’s third fight between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz may have sold as little as 25,00 buys, a new estimate has a higher, albeit, still low figure.

Recently the LA Times Lance Pugmire reported that the bout may have sold around 30,000 buys, and Yahoo Sports’ Kevin Iole reported he had heard the figure could be 25,000. Now MMA Fighting’s Dave Meltzer is reporting estimates for the Golden Boy Promotion PPV card at around 40,000.

The latter report also states that online interest in the third bout was actually quite high. But, that the interest in the legend’s fight didn’t lead to many PPV buys.

The 43-year-old Ortiz knocked the now 48-year-old Liddell out in the opening round. Liddell won their previous two contests in the UFC via stoppage.
