Newly Signed Jordan Mein Making Strikeforce Debut Sept. 10th

It may not be the promotion that Jordan Mein and his father Lee initially had their sights on, but the Canadian prospect has taken one big step closer to fulfilling his dream of competing for the UFC, as Strikeforce has announced that it has signed the 21 year-old welterweight to a contract. “If Zuffa didn’t own Strikeforce and it was a situation where if we signed with them we wouldn’t get signed by the UFC, that would have been a huge concern,” said Jordan’s father Lee Mein, who recently spoke to FCF about his son’s desire to fight in the Octagon. “The UFC is his goal. So now that he can fight for Strikeforce and there’s an opportunity to cross over, or if they merge in a year or whatever, that’s a great opportunity.”
Mein confirmed to FCF that not only has his son signed a four fight deal with the Zuffa owned promotion, but that Jordan will likely make his Strikeforce debut on September 10th. The promotion’s announcement of Mein’s signing did not include any information regarding the welterweight’s debut.
“Although we don’t know who he’ll be fighting we’re gearing up for September 10th,” Mein stated. “It’s great for us time wise. We want to get a good camp in as Strikeforce has several top level 170 pounders.”
For some time now, MMA observers in Canada and beyond have speculated that Mein was on the verge of signing with Zuffa, given the 22-7 fighter’s recent run, which includes wins over notable competitors in Joe Riggs, Josh Burkman and most recently, DREAM champion Marius Zaromskis.
According to Lee Mein, there have been no discussions yet as to whether Jordan will appear on the televised portion of the upcoming September 10th card, which has yet to have a venue or location confirmed.
“It will probably depend on who he fights as to where they think they can place him,” Mein said. “We’re ready to fight anybody they have on their roster top to bottom; it doesn’t matter to us.”
Since 2009, the Lethbridge, Alberta fighter has gone 11-2, with his only losses during that stretch coming to Mike Ricci and Jason High. Mein began his pro career in June, 2006.
