Nick Diaz Says He’s “on Top”, Looking For “The Right Guy to Make The Right Show”

Nick Diaz

Now that Nick Diaz is eligible to fight again there’s been no shortage of speculation about what’s next for the Stockton star, but the veteran’s making it clear he’s only interested in big money fights.

Following Tyron Woodley’s KO win over Robbie Lawler at UFC 201, the new welterweight champ relayed he’d like to face Diaz next. For some time, there’s also been talk that the UFC would like to book a rematch between Lawler and Diaz. The latter KO’d Lawler way back in 2004.

Well, recently Diaz spoke with ESPN, and during the interview, he said he was not interested in facing Lawler for a second time. The 33 year-old also stated:

“We’re going to have to see, sit down and have a look at what fans want to see,” Diaz said. “I’m on top right now. I’m on top of this game. There ain’t no ‘giving’ me a shot. I’m giving somebody a shot. If anybody’s getting a shot, somebody’s getting a shot against me, because I’m the guy to beat. These guys aren’t doing any money fighting each other, and until they do some money fighting each other, I’m not interested. I’m looking for the right guy to make the right show, do the right numbers. Then we can talk…”

Diaz’s 18 month suspension for testing positive for marijuana expired on August 1st. The outspoken fighter hasn’t competed since January, 2015, when he was decisioned by Anderson Silva. That bout was eventually overturned to a no-contest, however, after Silva tested positive for banned substances.
