Middleweight Says Bout Cancellation “Pretty Disappointing”

By Kelsey Mowatt

After coming in at 184 pounds for a scheduled middleweight bout with Constatinos Philippou on Friday, physicians pulled Nick Ring from the UFC 154 card on Saturday, due to what the fighter has told FCF was a “viral respiratory infection.”

The nature of Ring’s illness was not disclosed by the UFC when word of the bout’s cancellation was announced.

The 33 year old Ring relayed to FCF via text that due to the infection, the “UFC doctor pulled me from the card” because “I was unfit to fight.” The former TUF competitor added “It was pretty disappointing.”

Ring (13-1) was looking to build on the unanimous decision win he scored over Court McGee at UFC 149 in July.

Prior to the win the Calgary fighter lost by UD to contender Tim Boetsch at UFC 135 last September.

Philippou (11-2), meanwhile, was riding a four fight win streak heading into the card and is coming off a unanimous decision win over Riki Fukuda at UFC 148 in July.
