After months of speculation regarding the future of the UFC’s lightweight title, it’s been announced the promotion’s planning to have Charles Oliveira and Michael Chandler battle for the now, vacated title.

Following Khabib Nurmagomedov’s retirement in October, UFC President Dana White repeatedly said he hoped the now, former champ would fight again. Nurmagomedov repeatedly said, however, that he’s done fighting.

The two recently met in Las Vegas one more time. After Nurmagomedov repeated he’s remaining retired, White told ESPN the promotion is finalizing a title fight between Oliveira and Chandler. The bout is expected to take place on May 15th at UFC 262.

Oliveira (30-8, 1 NC) is riding an eight fight winning streak and is coming off a dominant, decision win over Tony Ferguson.

Chandler (22-5) made his UFC debut in January and the former Bellator chamo quickly stopped Dan Hooker.

Following Nurmagomedov’s meeting with White, the star shared out these comments and images.

It was a good dinner with some great people.
@danawhite thank you so much brother and the entire @ufc team for the opportunity to prove myself, you guys have changed many live forever because of this sport 👊

Dana – I’ll never forget your attitude towards me, my father did not forget and my sons will remember you.
Today there was a real conversation between real men.

Also thank you to all team, sparing partners and all fans.
I hope you will accept my decision and understand me.
