ONE FC Champ Ben Askren Reponds to UFC’s CM Punk
By FCF Staff
Although Ben Askren was quick to jump all over the UFC for signing pro-wrestler, Phil “CM Punk” Brooks to a contract, the ONE FC champ has relayed he’s not angry with the former WWE star.
After Brooks’ UFC deal was announced, Askren took to Twitter and posted:
All you dummies believed @danawhite when he said I need more experience. Then he signs a 0-0 fake wrestler. LOL on you

The renowned wrestler was referencing the fact that UFC President Dana White said Askren needed to defeat some more notable opponents, before the promotion would consider signing him.
In a follow up story with Rolling Stone, Brooks was asked about some of the criticism his UFC deal has received, since he has yet to compete in professional MMA. Brooks was quoted saying:
“This is about me and my journey to get there. I understand other peoples’ point of view about, “Oh, there’s great fighters out there like Ben Askren.” My only point on that is, “Don’t be mad at me, Ben. Be mad at [UFC President] Dana [White].” I’m sure Ben Askren’s a nice guy. If he’s mad at me, I understand. But if the Blackhawks came to me before Dana and Lorenzo did and were like, “We’re gonna put you in goal,” I’d be like, “That’s great. I played a little hockey when I was a kid.” You know what I mean?”
Well, Askren either read or was made aware of Brooks’ comments, as on Wednesday, the undefeated fighter tweeted:
Lol not mad at @CMPunk at all! Gotta take the opportunities that arise. That being said the powers to be making hypocritical decisions.

Askren is coming off a first round, blow out victory over Nobutatsu Suzuki in August to win ONE FC’s welterweight title.
The 30 year-old fighter has gone 14-0 since transitioning into MMA.
