It’s been an interesting news day today.  The MMA world isn’t even spinning out of control with some sort of new earth shaking controversy.  Heck, there’s even a story that one could consider to be a light-hearted choice to cover.

Ronda Rousey, current UFC Women’s Bantamweight Division Champion, had an interesting radio interview with the radio station Power 106 FM.  In the interview, which has been duly chronicled by the USA Today, Rousey stated the following about a possible matchup with current boxing kingpin Floyd Mayweather,

“I would drop down to the ground and crawl over to him as fast as I can.  I wouldn’t even stand up, I wouldn’t be near him. I would just do a little army crawl over there… I would just be skittering after him like the one dude in Bloodsport that was doing the whole monkey crawl fight system. I would do that. I would just bear crawl over there, too low for him to hit me, and tackle him down.”

To be sure, without watching the accompanying video, one might think she outright challenged Mayweather, and for the record, she did not.  It was actually an unusual question from the radio host that honestly didn’t seem to know much about MMA, as he asked who would win in a fight if both of them showed up without gloves.

The response to such a bizarre question was the reply posted above.  I think it was an exceptional response by Rousey to a rather silly question.  I can’t think of a better way to shrug off an apparently clueless pot-stirrer’s attempts at rabblerousing than throwing some polished mockery right back at him.

However, the interviewer didn’t stop there.  He seemed to give this hypothetical fight, albeit a practical impossibility, some serious thought.  He essentially asked the Olympic medalist in Judo if she could actually finish the fight if she drug the boxer to the ground.  Rousey looked at him, noticeably puzzled and replied simply that she’d “spent a lot of time down there.”

The USA Today article mentioned above makes it clear that the author thinks the 17 pound weight advantage held by Mayweather could be a difference-maker.  Now, I’m no fan of mixed gender bouts, but for the pure sake of speculation, I think Rousey pops one of Mayweather’s arms off, unless he’s had extensive grappling or wrestling training.
