Recent UFC signee Sergio Pettis is just 20 years old and has 9-0 fight record as he looks to build his career in the UFC bantamweight division.

Sergio is the younger brother to current UFC lightweight champion, Anthony Pettis, also training at Roufusport MMA, which has steadily evolved into a leading US fight camp. Sergio was reportedly offered a UFC contract previously, but wanted a little bit more experience before joining the No. 1 MMA promotion.

Similar to his older brother, Sergio possesses a devastatingly unique striking style that overwhelms opponents. He enters the UFC as inaugural RFA flyweight champion and the North American Fighting Championship (NAFC) bantamweight champion, and will focus on the bantamweight division first.

Expect to see the younger Pettis brother in action at UFC 167 against Vaughan Lee, a 10-year experienced fighter with an underwhelming fight record. Lee is just 2-3 in his UFC career, with his biggest win coming against Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto, and should be a good stepping stone for Pettis.

Pettis is just 20 years old and has only fought on the regional circuit, mainly in the Midwest, so he will have to adjust to the bright lights of the UFC. However, his older brother, mentor, training partner and UFC lightweight champion, Anthony, will be able to offer advice and knowledge.

I look forward to watching Sergio mature in the years to come, and hope the UFC doesn’t try and rush him before he’s ready. Expect his striking and ground game to evolve as he gets more experience competing with MMA veterans.
