The Ultimate Fighting Championship and Strikeforce held a Fighter Summit recently on July 9th and July 10th in Las Vegas, Nevada, and according to a press release from the organizations, a written policy against performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) and other banned substances was formalized at the meetings.

The press released furthered that “Lawrence Epstein, the company’s Executive Vice-President and General Counsel, explained the written policy is a continuation of existing policy, and that both promotions will follow guidelines drafted by the same law firm which advises the National Football League on PEDs.”

Epstein was quoted saying “It is important to continue educating our athletes on the dangers of PEDs and other banned substances. Additionally, no new UFC or Strikeforce promotional agreement will become effective before the athlete has provided a clean PED test result.”

The promotions’ medical consultant Dr. Jeff Davidson also spoke to the athletes about  PEDs and Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT). Executive Director of the Nevada State Athletic Commission Keith Kizer talked to the fighters about  laws and regulations regarding PEDs and TRT.

Other topics that were reportedly covered included using social media, Zuffa’s new partnership with EA Sports, and pro football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin spoke to the fighters about several issues including an athlete’s social responsibilities.

Zuffa also announced that all the company’s fighters will have accidental medical insurance for a second year, including added coverage for pre-existing conditions.
