‘Predator’ Not Afraid of Anderson Silva, Hopes for Rematch

Former UFC middleweight contender Patrick Cote believes Cung Le is the first step towards earning another title shot.

During the UFC 148 main card on Saturday, Cote returns to the UFC after winning four fights outside of the UFC.  The heavy-handed boxer has worked on his striking skills to become a better fighter, along with improving his wrestling and BJJ skills.

During a recent blog for Sportsnet Canada, Cote said he believes he can compete for the title again:

“Also, I don’t think that will be my last title shot. In fact, I wouldn’t bother coming back and making a go of things if I did think it was my last. I’m still young at 32 years of age and know for a fact I’m a much better fighter now than I was when I fought Anderson in 2008. I have more tools and skills and less weaknesses than I had back then. When it comes to standing and striking, nobody scares me right now. Not Silva, not Le.”

I don’t know how far Cote can go in his return in the UFC octagon, but I don’t think beating Silva in a rematch is in the works.  However, I believe if Cote has evolved his striking and wrestling skills, he can still have major success against the UFC middleweight’s elite fighters.

At UFC 148 on July 7, Cote will look to make a comeback against Le, an experienced Sanshou kickboxer with strong striking – and rather lackluster wrestling and BJJ.
