“JZ” Cavalcante vs. Lyle Beerbohm Official for July 30th

By FCF Staff

Strikeforce has announced that two of its more accomplished lightweights Gesias “JZ” Cavalcanate and Lyle “Fancy Pants” Beerbohm (pictured) will fight at the promotion’s upcoming July 30th, “Fedor vs. Henderson” event in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. The bout was confirmed via the official Strikeforce Twitter account.

Cavalcante (15-4-1) will get back into the cage just weeks removed from his June 18th bout with Justin Wilcox, which was declared a no contest, after Cavalcante accidently poked the lightweight in the eye. At Cavalcante’s Strikeforce debut in October, the highly regarded fighter dropped a competitive unanimous decision to Josh Thomson.

Beerbohm (15-2) will be looking to get back on track after dropping back-to-back bouts to Pat Healy and more recently, DREAM lightweight champ Shinya Aoki. Healy defeated Beerbohm by unanimous decision at a Challengers card in February, and then the Washington State fighter was tapped out by Aoki in April. Prior to the losses Beerbohm had won fifteen straight fights.

The upcoming July 30th Strikeforce card will be headlined by a heavyweight bout between Fedor Emelianenko and the promotion’s light-heavyweight champ Dan Henderson. Women’s welterweight champion Marloes Coenen will also defend her title versus Miesha Tate at the event.

The card will be broadcast on Showtime.
