Following his unanimous decision win over Kenny Robertson at the latest UFC on Fuel TV event earlier this month, Aaron Simpson is still pursuing a bout with his original scheduled opponent for that card, Jon Fitch.

Prior to fighting Robertson on July 11th, Simpson told Full Contact Fighter that he was hoping to fight the perennial contender next, and today the welterweight confirmed that’s still the case.

“I would like to fight Fitch as soon as possible,” said Simpson. “September in Toronto would be perfect, but we are waiting to hear back from Fitch’s camp. We’ve asked for the fight. I’m looking forward to getting back into training ASAP with my team at Power MMA and Coach (Tom) Vaughn.”

Fitch (23-4) was forced to withdraw from the July 11th bout due to a partially torn ACL he suffered while training. The 34 year-old-fighter, who has yet to compete since he was knocked out by Johny Hendricks in December, is expected to return sometime this fall.

Simpson (12-3) battled his way to a unanimous decision win over Robertson, in what was the 38 year-old-fighter’s welterweight debut, after going 6-3 in the UFC middleweight division.

“After watching the fight, I felt better about my performance,” said the decorated wrestler, who also reported that he emerged from the bout injury free. “I was disappointed that I didn’t finish him, but in the long run, knowing that I got stronger as the fight went and did not fatigue will give me confidence in future fights at welterweight.”

UFC 152 is scheduled for September 22nd at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre.
