When the resurgent Adam Lynn saw his six fight win streak come to an end in May, as a result of a split decision loss to Mukai Maromo, the lightweight didn’t expect to be fighting in a title fight next. Immediately following the controversial decision, however, the Maximum Fighting Championship announced that not only would Lynn get a rematch on August 10th, but the promotion’s vacant lightweight belt would be on the line.

“What happened, you can even see out my reaction, happens,” said Lynn, while discussing the loss, which was the veteran’s first since he was defeated by Josh Thomson in September, 2007. “It was unfortunate that they gave the fight to him, but regardless, the best thing that could have happened did: it advanced my career and now I’m going to fight for a championship.”

Since his initial meeting with Maromo at MFC 33, Lynn reports that his take on what unfolded that night, hasn’t changed.

“I thought I did enough to win the fight. I thought I controlled more aspects, especially in a MMA fight, I think I controlled it more in several ways, but regardless, I thought I won but I’m not out there to prove anything to anybody,” the 34 year said, who is one of the head instructors at the Subfighter MMA gym in Laguna Hills, California. “I’m going to go out there and do what I do, try to out position him again and hopefully get a finish.”

Of course, now that Lynn has faced the decorated Muay Thai competitor once before, he may have a better sense of what he needs to do to score a clear cut win at MFC 34 on August 10th.

“I’ll just try to be, my overall MMA game, just a little more polished,” Lynn noted. “Yeah, there was some opportunities. I think I’ll be able to maybe take advantage of the ground aspect a little bit more this time. He’s a tough competitor and he didn’t fade at all and fought hard.”

“I’m prepared to go all 25 minutes if we have to,” the BJJ brown belt and IFL vet added. “I’m sure he’s prepared to do the same thing. Being a fighter, it’s good to have these kind of fights; yeah we fought once, and now we’re going to have a rematch, so we both make each other a better fighter when we’re in the ring. I look forward to that and I think the fans will appreciate it too.”

The title fight is the latest reflection of the success Lynn has had since the fighter has returned from retirement. After his aforementioned loss to Thomson in 2007, Lynn didn’t compete again until January, 2010, when he began the six fight win streak.

“I had a rough first 20 fights in my career–I would win some, lose some, but now I think I’ve come full circle,” Lynn told Full Contact Fighter. “I have good teachers and I have a lot of trust in my training partners and coaches. I’m excited to fight for the championship; it’s been a long road.”

Lynn set up his bout with Maromo last October, by knocking out Curtis Demarce with a vicious standing elbow, the footage of which went viral on the web.

“I got people calling me and asking for interviews, and I trip out; that’s cool. I’ll play the part,” said Lynn. “It’s been ten years since I’ve been fighting so if people want to hear what I’ve got to say I’m down dude. It’s cool.”

The lightweight continues to prepare for the rematch with the help of fellow Subfighter MMA instructors like Russ Miura and Jimmy Jackson.

“I just feel like now, I’m not just a lot more prepared physically but I just want to do well,” Lynn added. “I have a clear vision in my mind of what I want to do. I know it’s not going to last forever, I’m almost 35 years old, but I’m just having a blast doing it.”

MFC 34 will be hosted by Edmonton’s Mayfield Conference Centre and will be broadcast live on AXS TV.
