ADCC Could Hold Up Title Defense for Vinny Magalhaes, Mikhail Zayats Possible Next Opponent
By FCF Staff
Former “Ultimate Fighter” competitor Vinny Magalhaes will not defend his M-1 Global Light-Heavyweight Championship until October or December, a representative from the promotion has informed FCF. Magalhaes is scheduled to compete at the Abu Dhabi Combat Club Submission Grappling World Championship in late September, which according to the M-1 rep, could push the champion’s first title defense from October to December.
When asked by FCF when he believed he was fighting again, Magalhaes stated October 14th, at M-1 Global’s next Showtime event, but that nothing was confirmed at this juncture.
In terms of an opponent, the M-1 spokesperson said Mikhail Zayats (14-5) is a possibility. The Russian fighter is currently on a four fight winning streak and is coming off a second round, stoppage of Malik Merad at M-1 Challenge 25 in April.
Magalhaes (8-5) has also won four straight bouts. In April he secured the M-1 light-heavyweight title by submitting Victor Nemkov in the third round.
