Alistair Overeem: “I’ll Be Fighting Again in December And Mark My Words”

According to Alistair Overeem, the 2012 MMA schedule will not conclude without at least one bout featuring the highly decorated heavyweight. The Dutch fighter took to Twitter last night to announce that he was en route to his new home in Miami, Florida, before posting:

I’ll be fighting again in December and mark my words, I’ll be back.. to get the belt, sooner rather later.

Overeem of course hasn’t fought since last December, when he stopped Brock Lesnar at UFC 141, as a result of a test earlier this year that revealed he had an elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratio.

The Nevada State Athletic Commission decided not to license Overeem for his scheduled title fight with Junior dos Santos in May as a result, and the fighter cannot apply to compete again until December 27th.

At Overeem’s licensing hearing the fighter’s camp cited testosterone treatments for a rib injury as the cause for the elevated T/E ratio.

Although the time frame for Overeem to secure a license to fight in 2012 is rather small, the UFC traditionally holds an event on December 29th.

The 32 year-old-fighter is currently riding a 12 fight undefeated streak which includes winning Strikeforce, DREAM and K-1 titles.
