ESPN has announced the candidates for the 2012 “Best Fighter of The Year” ESPY and UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva and UFC Light-Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones are two of them.

The other candidates are noted boxers, as WBA Junior Middleweight and WBC Welterweight Champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and WBA and WBC Super-Middleweight Champion Andre Ward have also been nominated.

The 37 year-old Silva (31-4) is coming off a 2011 campaign which saw the legendary fighter score stoppage wins over Yushin Okami and Vitor Belfort.

The 24 year-old Jones (16-1) entrenched his star status in the world of MMA in 2011 by earning victories over Ryan Bader, Mauricio Rua, Quinton Jackson and Lyoto Machida, the last three of which are former UFC champions.

Last year’s “Fighter of the Year” winner was boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao.

The ESPY’s will take place on Wednesday, July 11th.
