After recent speculation that the highly anticipated rematch between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen might not take place on June 23rd at UFC 147 afterall, the promotion has confirmed today that the bout has been moved to July 7th.

The announcement was made at a UFC press conference in Rio de Janeiro this morning.

UFC President Dana White had hinted recently that the June 23rd fight might be rescheduled due to a United Nations conference that’s taking place in Brazil that same week.

Silva-Sonnen II will now headline UFC 148 and will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

According to multiple reports, UFC 147 will take place at a date and venue to be determined and will feature a middleweight bout between Vitor Belfort and Wanderlei Silva in the main event.

Additionally, featherweight champion Jose Aldo is now expected to compete at the Brazil bound UFC 147 card, instead of UFC 149 in Calgary on July 21st.

Aldo’s opponent has not been announced.

Silva and Sonnen met for the first time in August, 2010, and saw the champion come from behind to submit Sonnen with a fifth round, triangle-choke.
