Anthony Johnson 12 Pounds Over Middlweight Limit For UFC Fight With Vitor Belfort, Fight Will Go On As Planned

Anthony "Rumble" Johnson failed to make weight for the third time in his UFC career today, his first at middleweight after moving up from welterweight

By FCF Staff

Shortly after UFC President Dana White announced during the broadcast of UFC weigh ins today that Anthony “Rumble” Johnson (10-3) would not be making weight for his scheduled middleweight bout tomorrow with Vitor Belfort (20-9), Johnson weighed in at 197 pounds, 12 pounds over the 185 pound limit of the fight.

White said the matchup will still take place, but that Johnson will be penalized 20 percent of his purse.  Belfort has requested that Anthony Johnson be under 205 lbs before the fight tomorrow in order for it to occur.

Johnson had a history of difficulty making weight for his previous bouts in the 170 pound limit welterweight division.   His failed attempt today marks the third time he has missed weight during his UFC career.

Johnson was fined a portion of his purse for failing to make weight by a margin of five pounds for his UFC 104 fight with Yoshiyuki Yoshida.
