Antonio Silva Fighting Cain Velasquez at UFC 146
By FCF Staff
Despite the loss of his original opponent Frank Mir, Cain Velasquez will still compete at the upcoming May 26th, UFC 146 card, as UFC President Dana White has announced that the former champion will fight Antonio Silva.
White confirmed the new bout via his official Twitter account.
The news comes shortly after it was confirmed that Mir will fight heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos instead of Alistair Overeem, whose immediate future remains uncertain, due to his now well documented pre-fight drug test.
Silva (16-3), who was originally scheduled to fight Roy Nelson at UFC 146, is coming off a knockout loss to Daniel Cormier in September.
Prior to the loss, Silva had scored consecutive victories over Andrei Arlovski, Mike Kyle and Fedor Emelianenko.
Velasquez (9-1) hasn’t competed since November when he was stopped by dos Santos in the first round at the UFC on FOX 1 card.
UFC 146 will be hosted by the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
